We slept reasonably well in the
Van Heeckeren Hotel in
Nes on Ameland .
Just like yesterday, breakfast is excellent again, and we also take a few sandwiches for
lunch, just like yesterday.
The weather for today is not what we would like, showers are expected during the day,
possibly heavy showers with thunderstorms.
According to various weather reports, it will only rain on Ameland from about four hours, so
that is hopefully not too bad.
But the temperature is also a lot lower than yesterday and there is a considerable wind.
During our previous visit to Ameland we tried to follow a ANWB bike route, the Ameland route, and we then cycled wrong and missed a whole part of that route. Now we want to try to follow the entire route, about 40 km.
After breakfast we cycle away.
The first part, along the Wadden Sea, is cold, and there is a strong wind.
Yet quite a few people still cycle.
We miss a sign somewhere again, and after a while we decide to go to the lighthouse and a
church.
We end up in Hollum, where we see signs
again, a bit confusing for us, and we cycle towards the
lighthouse
There we see signs again and we decide to follow them because there are also signs that show
that we are going to Nes.
The sky starts to get dark although it is not a long time to four o'clock.
So we kick through quite a bit, and all the cyclists we come across do the same.
Along the way we feel some raindrops, but luckily that does not continue.
Around two o'clock we are back at the hotel, dry, and a bit tired, we only cycled 25 km.
We just eat the sandwiches brought on in our hotel room.
Then we walk through Nes again, and Pia now buys the jacket she saw yesterday.
We settle down at Hotel de Jong and drink some wine
and beer there, not outside this time because it is too fresh on the terrace.
It is also quiet in Nes.
In the evening, just like yesterday, we eat again at the
Hekseketel.
Pia has a plate full of chicken and spare ribs, Tom tenderloin with gorgonzola sauce (where
the gorgonzola is nowhere to be seen).
It is a lot quieter than yesterday.
We take two bottles Amelander Quadrupel
to drink in the room.
